Flatpack 2020 Screen Dance Short Film Competition

Birmingham's eclectic film bonanza launches an exclusive online shorts programme

Like many other events, Flatpack Festival were last month forced to cancel their fourteenth edition scheduled for May. However, their acclaimed and BAFTA-qualifying short film competition will be going ahead online. For the first time this year, Flatpack presents a dance film competition programme. We received films from across the globe and have co-curated a selection that reflects the inventiveness and diversity of the of the art form with narratives that explore the body, how cities unite, motherhood, an obsession with data and a bit of housekeeping thrown in, and off course that’s all told through the medium of dance on film.

The programme will run on-line as part of Flatpack 2020: Home Entertainment Edition from the 8th til the 17th May. The competition will be judged by regional artists Karen Wood and Ravi Deepres and the winner will be announced during an awards night 15th May. Check out the trailer to see outstanding films that push the genre in many directions both technically, cinematically and choreographically.
